Multipurpose Monday

Times are tough. We're having to make ends meet and sometimes its not easy. Our family is having to cut back on many things so we're trying to be resourceful and find multiple purposes for ordinary household products.

In a way, we're hopping on the whole organic, use what you have trend. It's just like the multiple uses of baking soda or vinegar. Like how adding vinegar to you laundry will brighten your whites and darken your darks. Or how adding baking soda to your laundry will help remove stains. {Although my very limited chemistry background is telling me not to add these two products at the same time. You know the whole acid/base thing.}

Well, you have to read about those uses
somewhere so consider this post to be your own personal Public Service Announcement. That's right Good Citizen Denise, who cheerfully attends school board bond meetings, is bringing you a very useful tip today. If I were into themed blog posts I might do this every week. But alas...

So without further ado and needlessly prolonging the suspense, today's featured household product is:

Chocolate Pudding

Yes, the one and only chocolate pudding. The cup of contentment, comfort in a cup. Yes, it is true, I buy my children prepackaged cups of pudding. But they like it and it does contain 10% of their daily nutritional requirement of calcium. So it's a health food too. Yum, pudding.

I know you're saying "Has she lost her mind? Pudding? Health food?"

Look we could sit around debating the healthfulness of pudding all day long, okay maybe it would only take 30 seconds, but that's not the point. And we've also established in a galaxy far, far away long, long ago that I have indeed lost my mind. Moving on.

It turns out that chocolate pudding has MANY uses that my children discovered just the other night, and without a government grant, too. How resourceful.

Did you know that chocolate pudding makes an excellent hand sanitzer/moisturizing lotion?

As well as an excellent over all body lotion. Its also a good body paint, for those who are into that sort of thing.

Let's not forget to mention it makes a great face mask. No pointless fine print to not put it near your mouth and nose. Completely non toxic.

Mustache enhancer.

Lip gloss. Mmm, chocolate flavored.

But it has other, non beauty benefits as well.

Finger paint

And my all time favorite:

Tub cleanser. Perhaps my above reference to laundry uses makes much more sense now.

So there you have it. The Multiple Uses of Pudding. Remember you heard it here first.

If you need a nap enhancer visit my early post today, the themed post that spurred the week of non traditional themed posts, Not Me Monday.

Too cute! Was Emma reaching for your camera with her pudding face and fingers in one photo? I could hear myself saying "no, don't touch!"

That's great, but you missed the all important hair gel...best if done w/ yogurt, but I am sure pudding will do just as well. P.S. be happy you missed the hair gel....ughhh

Carey, yes Emma is forever reaching for the camera so I'm sure she was.

Lorie, see that's why I have friends like you. I hadn't even considered hair gel. But I think you're right, yogurt would be better.

Lana, ummm, no I think chocolate works better. You know the cocoa butter and all. But you could apply for a government grant and test it out with butterscotch. I'm very interested in your results.

Denise, like I've said, I really don't need any more addictions but that's never stopped me before. I even bought myself a cheap DVD player for my bedroom in anticipation. (my old one broke)

the secret recipe to my beautifully looking biscuits are a TON of flour. and i mean a TON, my mom was tired of me complaining that the dough was sticking to my hands so she kept adding flour to the mix. one thing led to another and those masterpieces were HUGE! but there you go (:
and i do think that my mom and i should come for a visit.
how about tomorrow?(;

Meggie, you bring your mom down here pronto. I'll even make you yummy biscuits. But in case she says no, just know that a bunch of us are trying to get together closer to where you all live. It will be a Blogger Convention. Now all we need is a name. Oh and by the way, Kristin from A Family is Forever is planning on bringing Katie so you're IN!

Works wonders through a straw (makes it last longer, kids get really quiet, but in a good way)...

Great as a camouflage mask, for those "I didn't do it, wasn't me, you can't see me" moments.

As for the vinegar and baking soda, let me tell ya a little story... Once upon a time, a zookeeper in a frozen tundra far, far away, had a monkey and a flamingo who still wet the bed. Their 36"x36" mattress pad, that supplements the full size mattress protector, was starting to really, uhm, not smell so good. Brand new kitty thought so too, and peed on it. You know what they say about cat pee... I wasn't ready to throw out the 36x36 hospital grade pad I had paid $20 for, so I put it in a bucket, soaked it in vinegar, let it sit for a while. I then added baking soda to it, gave the kids an impromptu science lesson by letting them watch the reaction... let it sit a while... threw it in the wash, and it came out smelling better than it did the day I bought it.

Sometimes, you gotta pull out all the stops!!

Another $ saver... we don't use dryer sheets much, but when we do, I usually cut them in 4, or sometimes in half, and then reuse them.

You are way more laid back than me-I fed Josie tomato soup without a bib and praised her for using her spoon and not spilling her soup on herself. I got up to get her some milk and I hear her saying "washing my hands, my fingers (from an elmo video) so I rush back in and sure enough, she's up to her shoulders in tomato soup while she "washes her hands".

I should've taken pictures-but I wasn't amused at the moment.
