Friday Night Fun

When you think of a fantastically fun Friday night I bet this comes instantly to mind:

Painting!!! I started painting my dining room tonight. I've had the paint and primer since JUNE and never got around to painting. Of course, I moved into the house on June 1st, left for China to adopt Ryan on July 10 (Emma's 1st Birthday), and came home to a basement remodel being finished. And then, of course, there was the usual chaos of life. Throw in some major laziness on my part and I didn't start to paint until January.

Why tonight? Because the house has been relatively picked up although there was the momentary lapse the other day, but was picked up this morning for a visit from our social worker, and messed up tonight while I was preoccupied in the dining room and the savages ran loose-- supervised by Ross, of course. In any case, I've also hung some curtains upstairs so between the hangings (curtains that is) and the sporadic cleanliness I got inspired to paint and finally make the drapes for the room. Painting first.

Oh you noticed Emma on my hip? I say its never too soon to teach a child a valuable life skill. Tomorrow I'll give her a brush and set her loose. You know the saying "See one, Do one, Teach one." Oh wait, that's medical school. Ah, whatever.

The dining room has a recessed ceiling that is painted of course so I had to paint it too. Don't be hatin' on my beauty here. Not everyone can pull off looking so good while standing on a table wearing sweat pants and an old worn out t-shirt covered in paint. Its a gift.

This color is just the primer. Hopefully the paint goes on tomorrow. It better!!! The rest of my dining room is scattered across the living room and breakfast room. Of course, back in the day I would have already started the painting. It wouldn't matter that its almost 11:00; I would have done 2 coats of paint, reassembled the dining room and then gone to bed. Once when we lived in Little Rock, Darrell left for 2 1/2 days to a medical conference. When he came home I had repainted the dining room, hung a chandelier, bought and assembled 2 book cases, a dining room table and 6 chairs.

Not happening tonight. I'm sore and going to bed!

But But But - the original color looked very dark (maybe a burgundy?) what color is the new paint?? Inquiring minds want to know. I know - WAIT for the reveal. darn.

Just reading what you would have done in the "old days" made me tired - I'm too old for all that :D

I will be spending A LOT of Friday nights like this in March when we move in our new house. 8 rooms need to be painted. Thank god I decided I liked the color of the 22' ceilings.

You sound like me in the old days when my Husband used to travel. I used to be too scared at night to sleep so I would stay up all night doing home projects. My Husband loved it because he didn't have to be involved.

I can't wait to see the color That is a dark primer.

Go you! We did a whole lot of painting in our house this time last year. It's really not so bad once you get started. But getting everything prepared to paint is never fun. Can't wait to see teh finished product.

I feel for you...I can imagine how sore you must be after painting and a full day with the kids. But what a sense of accomplishment you'll feel when it's finished!

I frequently end up redecorating when my husband is out of town too. It's because he is not there to offer his opinion.
