New Kids on the Block

A couple of weeks ago I went outside to turn on my grill.

And I found something like this:

At first it was a bunch of grass. I cleaned it out and the next day I went back and found it again. After the third time I stopped and waited.

Before long we had eggs! Every few days we would carefully check them and this weekend we found:

Naked baby birds!

Here they are a few days later; they've gotten bigger. Out of five eggs, only 3 hatched. Sometimes we can hear them crying from the sliding glass door. So far it's cute. How long do we have until it gets annoying?

Good thing my grill is out of gas.

  2. Actually I think if you haven't touched them, momma should be there soon to remove them.

  7. OK, birds totally freak me out so I'm not seeing the "cute" in this situation. We had a similar invasion at our old house, but it was MICE! Uggghhh!!! We ended up getting rid of the grill 'cause we were so grossed out by it!!

    Why can't nature's creatures just stay out in nature where they belong?!?!?!

    Teresa =)

    P.S. LOVE your new profile picture...you look like a stinkin' model!

  11. How cute, but I am sorry to say, you may have to buy a new grill. We have a bird that has built a nest on top of the light in our front entry way, Kaylie named her Lulu, she comes back every year, the light is disgusting, pitted and rusted, and I really wanted to enclose my front entry way, but I don't have the heart to evict Lulu, so there it is, rusted light and no screen, but Lulu has a nest every year when she comes home. I bet the kids are loving it.

  20. Girl it is cute the first time they do it, but now that momma (or her friends) will come back every year and do the same thing. And then comes the poop and the MESS! I hate to be a party pooper but we have a bird that does a nest every year on our porch and I loved it the first year, now I'm worried about getting pooped on and one side of my porch is a mess. I told Brian after this time, were rigging somethnig up there so they can't get back. We have TREES EVERYWHERE and they pick my porch!!

  21. I guess mama bird got the vibes that you are constantly opening your door for more. :) Birds are my absolute phobia so I would be running away screaming but I bet your kiddos are enjoying them.

  26. A bird built a nest in my cousins BBQ too just a couple weeks ago. They looked and had eggs but when they looked again... the eggs were gone... Strange! I think it would be fun to have baby birds... for only a little bit!
