I'm Being Stalked by Build-a-Bear

Well, not really...well kind of. This morning my cell phone informed me that I was being Followed by Build-a-Bear.

Say what? What could I have done to tick off Build-a-Bear? I mean, we haven't been there in a while but was that enough to have me followed???

Should I be on the lookout for this guy? Are bears going to be hiding in the bushes? How exactly did I get myself into this situation?

Twitter. That's how.

It started out so innocently. I joined Twitter because all the cool kids are doing it and, well, I've aspired to be a cool kid since sixth grade when all the boys and girls were trading leather bracelets and I never got one. Plus it was just one more way to exploit my life just a tiny bit more.

{Yeah, we all know I need therapy. Maybe I should set up a Chip-In widget for people to donate towards my sessions.}

When I joined I had no idea what I was doing. I still don't really. I started with a couple of followers I had never even heard of and have no idea how they even found me. And then I got some real tweet friends, just a few, but enough to make it interesting.

For you nonTweeters, there's a whole world out there waiting to be explored. I feel like Christopher Columbus trying to find China and but discovering the Caribbean instead. Some days I feel like I'm groping around in the dark and then I stumble upon something.

{Okay, Stumble Upon is a REAL THING I just found out about today!!! Yesterday someone told me in my comments that they "stumbled upon" me and then I found out what it meant today.}

Back to my story: I discovered something called GNO, which stands for Girls Night Out. We all know that this Girl is in desperate need for a Night Out so I was definitely checking that puppy out! I signed up for it last night, it takes place on Tuesday nights, but didn't do anything with it. But all of a sudden, this morning I started getting invites on Twitter and it appeared they were coming from GNO.

And then I got this Tweet: Buildabear is now following you.

Was this a joke? I was at my laptop and looked it up and followed the link and it looked pretty legit. The Build-a-Bear was following me on Twitter. How weird was that? So weird that when I was tweeting with my friend Brandy about Christmas cookies this afternoon I tweeted her:

I just found out that Build-a-Bear is following me on Twitter. Should I be scared? That sounds totally WEIRD!!!!

To which she replied that she was also being followed. We laughed about it, with Brandy telling me not to answer my front door if a giant bear was there, to send Ross instead and she suddenly announces:

Oh shoot he just hugged you too. :}

What was she talking about? Then I saw this message:

buildabear @MommaDenise Sorry to alarm you. Sending you a virtual hug. :)

Now, I don't know why, maybe its the lack of social stimulation or the fact I really have no life, but I thought this was so hysterically funny that I laughed and laughed to the point of thoroughly annoying my children. First, Build-a-Bear, the Build-a-Bear was "following" me -- I mean, seriously is there a little bear tapping away at a keyboard following people? That must be very difficult given the fact that those little guys have no digits, much less opposable thumbs. (I happen to know its a keyboard and not a cell phone because its says "from web") And second, not only was it following me but it was actually conversing with me and apologizing for alarming me. I'm sorry, but that's some funny stuff.

I chuckled all evening long until I got another Tweet. Discovery Toys is following me too.

Oh, crappy doodles. I may need to get a restraining order.

  9. Seriously, my family is already giving my a hard time for being on the computer too much. Like when did they start to care what I am doing? That's all I need is one more thing to eat up my time. I am so addicted to blogging, I better stay away from that addiction.

  10. Grand Pooba, be careful about what you say-- they are reading this post you know. REALLY!!! They sent me a tweet this morning that my post cracked them up. I quickly apologized if I offended the little bear who types the tweets. I have enough enemies, you know? No need adding psycho bears to the list!

  19. Well, it all started out perfectly innocently. I found my way here from SITS and the next thing I know, I have a Twitter account. I blame you. Of course, I can't figure out how to add people, so you are one of three people that I follow (completely by accident, I might add!). Thanks ever so much! :) Love your blog, btw. Happy Saucy SITS blog week!

  29. AndreaLeigh, GNO is with Twitter. If you click on GNO in my post it will take you to the page about Girls Night Out. Or go to this link and it will tell you all about it. http://mommygossip-gno.blogspot.com/2008/10/what-is-mommy-gossipgno.html

    I haven't participated myself. I had seen twittering about it last week and checked it out and signed up Tuesday but didn't participate. But that's how Build-a-Bear got my my Twitter name to follow.

  38. Oh, crappy doodles (LOVE that phrase and I WILL be adding that one to my repertoire!)...now that you're all famous on SITS, my comments will just get lost in the shuffle. I still have my lowly 13 followers...you're heading to 50!!!

    At least I can say I knew you way back when, before you became famous...

    Teresa =)

  39. Teresa, you better still comment on my blog!!! In fact, I'm thinking about what my next giveaway is and trying figure out how to make sure you win this time! And, of course you know I'm still harassing YOU with comments on your blog!

    Oh, and feel free to beg, borrow or steal "crappy doodles." I try my best to maintain a G rated house (and blog) so crappy oodles is one I can pull out when Crap (which is actually kind of a bad word in our house) doesn't quite cut it.

  40. Oh, Denise, you're not getting rid of me no matter HOW big and famous this blog becomes! I actually had a dream two nights ago that I babysat Emma for you and our house was hit by a tornado! (Not Emma's fault, by the way.) Want you to know that I kept your baby safe from harm!

    Keep working on that "fixed giveaway" for me, girlfriend!

    Teresa =)
